Kinatkatay sa Binabaje, Alicia’s premier annual mountain-bike race now on its third year opens to five categories: elite, 45 and above, 31 to 44, 30 years old and below and the beginners for its February 11 event.
A race that would largely be determined by a biker’s endurance in uphill climbs through the rolling hills of Barangay Binabaje,
Kinatkatay has also equally challenging segments that would be a perfect poser for professionals and beginners who would be making the climb to the panoramic park one of the town’s best eco-tourism test product for sports tourism.
Considered among the toughest race course in Bohol mountain bike races, Kinatkatay sa Binabaje features 12 kilometers of cross country roads, single track trails, seemingly impenetrable ascents and technical downhill segments that get one from the Alicia town center to Cambaol, up its mountain trails to The Alicia Panoramic Park (TAPP) and the burn the trails back to the town center.
But as the race pedals up the slopes of Binabaje, one can be led to the TAPP which offers one of the most panoramic view of the mountains and the characteristically rolling hills of Alicia, Ubay, Candijay, Mabini and a glimpse of the Bohol sea.
The spectacular view has also been touted as similar to Batanes and its early morning fog gets the view an uncanny semblance to Mount Pulag.
A regular feature of the Alicia Foundation Days, Kinatkatay sa Binabaje dangles hefty prizes: 5,000, 3,000, 2000, 1,000 and 500 for the elite category and P3,0000, 2,000, 1,000, 500 and 300 for the 45 and above, 31 to 44, 30 years old and below while its beginners top 5 winners get P1,500, 1,000, 750, 500 and 250.
Registration is P400 and includes free tee-shirt for early registrants, race bib and after race meal, according to Alicia race organizer, Municipal Tourism Office and Mayor Marnilou Ayuban.
We can not assure t-shirts for on-site registrants though, Tourism Officer Godelia Lumugdang warned.
Deadline for registration is January 26.
Registrants can download the registration forms form the Alicia Unfolds facebook page, and could be screen shot to be submitted to the same page by private message.
For Tagbilaran City and nearby town race participants, race organizers including Bohol Provincial Government, Provincial Tourism Council and the Bohol Tourism Office has prepared a bike and race participant transport, Lumugdang added.
Bikers joining the race need to be assembled in front of the Dunkin Donuts Tagbilaran City plaza February 11 from 4:00 AM where a vehicle would be loading the race bikes for the two hour trip to Alicia.

In Alicia however, the trail may not be as rocky and shrubby as this, but the spectacular view of the rolling hills there is a breather enough to press bikers to pedal harder to the top for the best view.
