Tagbilaran bullish on tourism promotions

The City Government of Tagbilaran, under the direction of City Mayor Baba Yap, has been very active in adhering to its commitment to put the name of TAGBILARAN in the travel industry as a tourist destination on its own and not just a “gateway” to Bohol. This was apparent in the latest travel shows that the city participated this year.

Last January, through the support of our stakeholders, Tagbilaran joined an international travel fair for the first time. City Tourism Officer Shobel L. Ligalig represented the City in the annual ASEAN TOURISM FORUM (ATF) which the Philippines hosted at SMX Convention Center. Travel agents from all over the world showed interest on what the city had to offer through the pre-booked appointments.

Recently, Tagbilaran also became a major partner of the Provincial Tourism Council and Bohol Tourism Office in the PHILIPPINE TRAVEL MART. Promotional materials from our collaterals were given out to the interested travel agents as a kit. A database of the all the accommodation establishments in the city which was completed by Ms. Ligalig turned out to be the most requested information.

The city’s involvement in the local tourism industry also expands to recommending ordinances and  supporting other tourism-related activities as manifested in the recently approved CITY TOURISM COMPLIANCE CERTIFICATE (CTCC) authored by then-councilor Lucille Lagunay, as a requisite in getting a  Mayor’s Permit, urging all primary tourism establishments as listed in RA 9593, otherwise known as The Tourism Act of 2009, to be DOT-Accredited, for Accommodation Establishments to submit their monthly DOT reports;  and to have a clear “Child Protection Policy” in place.

The City Tourism Office also supported the latest 17th Bohol Tourism Quiz organized by BITGAP (Bohol Island Tour Guides Association of the Philippines) through the support of the following partners in the industry. Gift Certificates and goodies were given out to the winners both in the district and city levels. Free overnight stay in BOHOL TROPICS RESORT, HARBOUR GARDENS, BOHOL SUNSET VILLA and STAYLITE PBB were among the major prizes. DINNER FOR TWO from JUST SIZZLIN’ RESTO, THE BUZZZ CAFÉ, 10:31 by Chef M, SHANG MA NOU, SHIANG PALACE, SHAKEY’S PIZZA and special thanks to PIZZA HUT which sponsored for 9 winners. PAINITANG BOL-ANON gave 10 GC’s while ESTRELLA BAKERY, TRISTONE and DALIKYAT gave assorted goodies. BO’s COFFEE and SWEET HOME CAFÉ also sponsored GC’s. BITGAP had been doing this on their own for the past 17 years until the City Tourism Office extended its hand and became a major partner in the event.

It’s concerted efforts and proactive moves like these that will shape up our tourism industry in the succeeding years. With the different tourism development projects in the pipelines, city tourism will surely be a major economic driver in the future.
