A midwife accused of being the alleged mastermind of killing her own husband in Cortes was arrested by authorities on Tuesday after going into hiding in Pamplona, Negros Oriental.
The suspect was identified as Antoinette Epe, a midwife of the Muncipal Health Office, of barangay La Paz, Cortes.
According to reports, Cortes police coordinated with Pamplona police to serve an arrest warrant issued by Judge Lindecita Arcamo of RTC branch 1 in Tagbilaran dated May 22.
Police said based on investigation, Epe was allegedly the one behind the killing of Jovencio Epe, 47, a mechanic. Jovencio was found lifeless and bloodied inside the couple’s home back in November 19, 2016.
According to reports, an accomplice was allegedly involved in the crime identified as Arnold Paler. Paler is a casual employee at the local government and a resident of barangay Malayo Norte, Cortes.
Paler was earlier arrested by police and allegedly the midwife’s lover.
After posting bail amounting P200,000, Paler was granted provisional liberty. He was also made a state witness, police said.
Another accomplice identified as Egoy allegedly was the one who killed the victim and is a subject of a police manhunt.
