Getafe man arrested for gun ban

While the gun ban has been lifted following the signing of the law postponing the October 2017 barangay elections, a man was arrested for having possesion of a firearm while the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban was being enforced last Monday.

Police identified the suspect as Jesus Torrejas, 27, of barangay Tugas, Getafe. He was caught in the act of holding a short firearm, a live round of ammunition and a bamboo knife.

It may be moot and academic for the man to be charged for violation of the Comelec gun ban now there would be no elections, approaching, the fate of the man will be decided by the prosecutors of the case.

Still, the suspect will face charges not just of violation of the gun ban, but also violation of RA 10591 for allegedly illegally posessing a firearm.

The law postponing the elections for barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan was signed on Tuesday.
