Former Loay town Vice Mayor Tiburcio “Tibbs” Bullecer has asked the help of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan for Congress to change the date of the anniversary of the Blood Compact from March 16 to March 25.
Bullecer, the president of the Bohol Tri-Media Association, wrote to the provincial board seeking to ask Congress to forge a law correcting the date.
Republic Act No. 9093 declared that every March 16 is a special working holiday in Tagbilaran and Bohol commemorating the Blood Compact Day.
The date was based on the historical accounts that Captain General Miguel Lopez de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna made a blood compact, which was known as the first treaty of friendship.
The treaty happened in barangay Bool, in Tagbilaran.
However, it was later learned via several studies, documents and artifacts, that the traditional pieces of information about the blood compact were inaccurate.
It was later learned, the blood compact happened in Loay town and on March 25.
The National Historical Institute wanted to correct the historical error by asking the Governor to transfer the marker from Bool to the supposedly rightful site in barangay Hunawanan, Loay.
Bullecer wants Congress to correct a historical error by declaring March 25 as the rightful date to celebrate the blood compact.
The letter sent to the provincial board was referred to the Committee on Culture and the Arts for further deliberation by the presiding officer Acting Vice Governor Benjie Arcamo.
After a long and arduous discussion, the NHI then came up with the findings that the Bool blood compact is not accurate and the event happened in Loay.
With the move, it is evident a historical error is being corrected to point to the real events that happened based on later findings of the NHI.
