Cogon rape suspects charged

After several weeks, Tagbilaran police finally filed a rape case against three suspects, in effect putting a lid to one of the most sensational rape case in recent memory.

Tagbilaran police chief Supt Patricio Degay Jr, told the Tribune via a phone call that a rape case has been filed against Gregorio Bongosia Gabines, 47, a member of the city’s Active Local Emergency Response Team (ALERT).

Two other suspects remained unidentified and charged as “John Does”.

The evidence against the suspect was the positive identification of the suspect by the rape victim, said Degay.

Gabines was identified by the victim in the police line-up as among the suspects who allegedly committed rape.

Authorities are now tightly monitoring the suspect, as police await the issuance of an arrest warrant.

The local police hopes the suspect will cooperate and will pinpoint the two other suspects.

Residents were shocked to learn about a college student who got raped in barangay Cogon.

The victim narrated to the police that three men dragged her to an empty restroom in Cogon Public Market.

Reports said the suspects held her and slammed the victim’s head to the wall. It led to the victim losing consciousness.

The victim woke up the following morning sprawled on a pedestrian lane near a mall in Cogon without any underwear.
